Walker Muffler Review - You Get What You Pay For

In our previous post, we decided to try out an inexpensive alternative to replacing our OEM muffler. Walker Exhaust manufactures OEM replacement mufflers for all makes and models. We decided to give the Walker Quiet-Flow SS a try. If it didn't work out, we'd only be out a little over a hundred bucks.

Here's a closeup shot of the welds. Not the greatest but it looks like it will withstand year round outdoor weather. Having said that, we were a bit dissapointed at the blemishes and dents all around the muffler. Not very good presentation or packaging either.

Here a shot of the actual muffler before we tore off the packaging. You can see a bunch of scratches and dents. Not the end of the world but they could've done a better job.

Packaging: 1/5
91 honda crx si walker muffler installation
Here's the muffler installed. Installation was a breeze and everything bolted up without any issues. We actually bought the Walker Spring Bolt Kit just in case but we're happy to report that we were able to fully utilize all of our OEM hardware including the original hangers.

Installation 5/5

Although installation was easy, fitment was another story. The tailpipes aren't centered, hang too low, and the entire muffler hangs a bit uneven. Definitely not something we at RestorationCRX can approve of.

Not only are the tips not centered, they aren't cut to length. Obviously you can mask this with a set of chrome finisher tips but still...

They could've used a sharper pipe cutter.

Fitment: 2/5

Here's another closeup of the welds. Function over form we suppose.

One last shot of the welds.

While this isn't a "restoration quality" piece of hardware, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Walker Quiet Flow SS line of mufflers to anyone that just needs an inexpensive replacement to their old rusted-off can. For a little over $100, you really can't go wrong. It's also incredibly quiet and doesn't have any annoying drones or hums that you usually find at your local franchise muffler shops.

Here's the Amazon link we used to purchase.

That being said, we're still on the lookout for a pre-loved 88-91 Honda CRX Si OEM muffler. And if we still can't find one, we'll have to explore going full custom. Stay tuned.

If you go custom, why not get something of the shelve? I really love my Remus dual tip exhaust.

Hi Leon,

The Remus exhaust is still in consideration and it's something we're going to look into further. Thanks for the comment =)

I thought Walkers were good. Not any more. Resonator and muffler lasted less than 3 years. I live in Buffalo but still thought it would last at least 5. Won’t buy again. I have used Bosal for other vehicles and they are cheaper and last longer.

I don't know the history of the Walker company but now their mufflers just look like garbage. All this welding seams will be rusted this Canadian winter.

I've being buying Walker mufflers for My saabs since 1990 Labelled as "Starla" over their walker stickers .
Noting that Starla was OEM Saab.
They Live surprisingly long .. 6 to 10 years.and while they do come with the above shipping blemishes they also fit and work well.
Bosals on the other hand are Very low quality by direct comparison. As in the one I tried was immediately returned.
Maybe it's intended car type associated? dunno.

Hi, I would like to thank you for this site. There are a lot of useful information.
I have a CRX ee8 30 years old.
Silencer has gone and I need a new one.
I did not find anything with an accessible cost for my vtec, but the re are few cheap choices for the ed9 model.
One of them is the Walker presented in this review.
Have you got any information regarding swapping silencers between ee8 and ed9 and viceversa?
Thank you very much.

Went through 3 Walker mufflers for my 2008 RAV4 3.5L V6. they would all last less than 2 years. They all break at the same spot which is behind the muffler. Speaking to muffler shops, the word is that Walker products are now JUNK. I would never recommend such a product and in my case the failures were consistent. I am very lucky that the tail pipe assembly would fall off close to home or work and not when I was doing highway speeds.

Oh, I see...
Well, OEM mufflers for my CRX are pratically unavailable.
I found few tuning components that are pretty close to the original one, but are made in inox steel.
The sound should be quiet; I hope so, since the cost is not exactly cheap.
Thanks
