Greatest 4-Cylinder Engine of All Time?

The guys over at AutoBlog just published an article debating what they thought was the greatest 4-cylinder engine of all time.

Look at the comments section and unsurprisingly, you'll see a lot of love for the stuff that came out of Honda's engineering department.

And although we can't argue with engines like the F20C, B16s, B18s, K20s and K24s, we're going to go ahead and add our beloved D16A6 to the conversation.

Yes we're very well aware that the engine in our CR-X doesn't even have VTEC but with 200,000 miles on the clock and a bunch of neglect seen in our earlier posts, this little 1.6 workhorse still managed to pump out perfect compression #s (not to mention that it drives and feels great).

Man I love this build..My brother whom passed away January 3. He had a crx just like this and sold it. He used to say it was the worst mistake selling it as it was the best car he had ever owned. Love watching the build.

Hi Jason! Thanks for your interest and support. We still have a TON of work ahead of us. We'll make absolutely certain this project would make both you and your brother proud.

You guys are the bomb! What nostalgia!

Indeed the CRX 88-91 was by far the best Honda ever made.

I owned a blk '91 DX and then later a blk '89 Si....was a member of some old Bay Area CRX club run by Ted Guiterrez...sorry I can't even remember the club name it was so long ago.

I eventually sold the '89 Si in 2004, and upgraded to a larger car due to my first born..,at least it was a '02 Subaru WRX wagon which I still drive daily today (258k, 280+hp).

I actually want to pick up a CRX again to use as a commuter....15 mpg on premium and turbo isn't cutting it 😂 Thus, I ran into your CL post!

Probably around 2 yrs ago, I saw an EBay auction BIN for a fully restored(meticulously ) '91 Si w/the JDM rear seats, teal, and under 80k..,for $15k. I would've loved to own it!

I applaud you guys for taking on this project...so many memories with this car especially the damn distributor & cap/rotor!

Can't wait to see the final!

Thanks for sharing your story Terence. We appreciate the support! Funny how those annoying mechanical problems become some of our fondest memories...

Hi. I have a 1990 Civic. It is such a pleasure to drive around town and on a flat road or freeway however, climbing hills is a problem. It does not exceed 40mph and I have to drive in the truck lane and even then I have diesel trucks frustrated at me because im in the way. What can i do tomincrease performance? Is there something I can do withe the current engine, if so what? Or should I swap it with another engine? Please help me. Thank you very much.
